What is a Tilt Rotator Coupler? Why should you use one?

A tilt rotator coupler, or tiltrotator, is a type of excavator hydraulic quick coupler that improves the range of motion for your buckets and attachments. A tiltrotator gives you the flexibility to tilt 45 degrees left and right, as well as a 360 degree rotation. This flexibility allows the operator to manoeuvre the excavator bucket or attachment to the required angle, which is particularly useful when working on uneven terrain, profiling trench slopes and when backfilling against walls and fences.

Choose the right size bucket for your jobs is essential for efficient, cost-effective working. Our S60 tilt rotator trenching and digging bucket range is available in 18", 24", 30", 36" and 48" widths, and our S70 tilt rotator range is available in 24", 30", 36", 48" and 60" widths. See the full breakdown of widths, weights and capacities for each bucket in the tables below.

Single Radius Buckets VS Rhinox Dual Radius Buckets

Dual Radius Shell Design

Rhinox S60 and S70 digging buckets are designed with a dual radius shell. A dual radius shell gives the bucket two distinct geometries, which allows the base of the bucket to follow the teeth or blade through the material. This design prevents the rear of the bucket from contacting the ground during digging, significantly reducing drag and minimising resistance on your excavator. As a result, the bucket moves more efficiently through the earth, lowering fuel consumption and improving overall digging performance.

HB400 Lip Plate & Cutting Edge Options

All Rhinox trenching buckets and digging buckets feature a HB400 lip plate to reinforce and maximise the strength of this high-wearing area. We have hardened this area to HB400 to reduce the speed of wear, as the lip plate can be a costly job to replace when worn back. In addition, we provide a variety of cutting edge options:

  • CAT-style Tips & Adaptors - S60 model comes with 215 (J300) CAT-style teeth, and the S70 models come with 225 (J350) CAT-style teeth.

  • Bolt-on Blade - The S60 tilt rotators use a HB400 blade with 3/4" UNC x 3" plow bolts, while the S70 models use 7/8" UNC x 3-1/2" plow bolts.

  • Weld-on Blade with CAT-style Tips & Adaptors - The S60 model has 215 (J300) CAT-style teeth with a HB400 blade welded underneath, while the S70 model features 225 (J350) CAT-style teeth and the same HB400 blade.

Additional Wear Protection

Rhinox tilt rotator excavator trenching and digging buckets feature leading edges that are almost 3 times thicker than the shell of the bucket, paired with cast-steel, weld-in side cutters. These critical features are specifically engineered to reduce wear and tear in high-impact areas. Additionally, three wear-resistant straps on the underside provide extra protection in regions that experience the most friction, ensuring that the wear straps take the brunt of the wear before the bucket shell itself. These features work together to prolong the bucket's lifespan and reduce the need for frequent repairs or replacements, ultimately extending the service life of your excavator and lowering overall maintenance costs.

Bucket Transportation Hooks

As all Rhinox digging buckets do, our tilt rotator trenching and digging buckets feature bucket transport hooks. Bucket hooks are designed to make moving multiple buckets at once quicker and safer! Instead of unevenly stacking buckets inside of each other, or tracking backwards and forwards to pick up and drop off attachments, you can use the flat side of your grading bucket or shaping bucket to lift and transport your buckets. Scandinavian Style Shaping Buckets

Rhinox tilt rotator shaping buckets are available for the S60 tiltrotator coupler in 60" wide, and 72" wide for the S70 tiltrotator. Designed with the scandinavian-style, bevelled-edge bucket profile, our shaping buckets offer superior precision, allowing for smooth, efficient grading even on uneven or challenging terrain. See the breakdown of widths, weights and capacities for our S60 and S70 shaping buckets in the table below.

Rhinox S60 Tilt Rotator Shaping Bucket - Front View

8mm / 10mm Thick Shell

The Rhinox S60 scandinavian style shaping bucket is made from 8mm thick steel, with the larger S70 shaping bucket being made from 10mm thick steel. This steel shell is specifically designed to withstand the harsh demands of construction and groundworks sites. The increased thickness offers greater resistance to impact and wear, especially when working with abrasive materials such as rocks or compacted soil. By reinforcing the bucket with an 8mm and 10mm shell, Rhinox ensures that the bucket maintains its shape and structural integrity over time, reducing the likelihood of distortion or cracks.

HB500 Lip Plate

One of the standout features of a Rhinox tilt rotator shaping bucket is the HB500 lip plate, which offers exceptional wear resistance. This strengthened steel not only slows the wear of the lip plate and ensures the longevity of the cutting edge, but also maintains its sharpness, reducing the need for frequent maintenance or replacement. Whether you're working on tough terrain or softer soils, this HB500 edge is designed to handle repeated use without losing performance, making it a reliable tool for precision shaping jobs. Our lip plate also features a 45 degree bevelled edge to make cutting through layers of material much easier and reducing the resistance, which ultimately allows your digger to perform more efficiently and has a positive impact on your fuel efficiency.

Rhinox S60 Tilt Rotator Shaping Bucket - Rear View

10mm / 12mm Thick Top Plate

Rhinox shaping buckets feature a top plate that is taller than the average. The increased height of our top plate plays a crucial role in preventing mud and material from falling over the top of the bucket and into the hangers and coupler, which can cause unnecessary damage. By keeping debris away from these fragile areas, the top plate not only helps maintain the longevity of your equipment but also reduces the need for frequent stops to clear blockages. To add a further layer of durability, the top plate is 10mm thick for S60 or 12 mm thick for S70, to prevent cracks and bending in the bucket’s framework.

Additional Wear Protection

Rhinox S60 and S70 shaping buckets are built to endure abrasive working conditions, featuring a high-strength HB400 leading edge for resistance to abrasion. The angled rear shell of our tiltrotator shaping buckets are reinforced with a 5mm Rhinox wear plate, offering additional protection to the sides, especially when grading and shaping around curbs and drains. To protect the underside of your shaping bucket, Rhinox have added wear-resistant wear straps - 5 straps on the S60 shaping bucket, and 6 straps on the S70 shaping bucket. We have strategically placed these straps to absorb the majority of the wear, ensuring the bucket shell is the last area to wear, therefore prolonging the overall lifespan of your bucket. Together, these features reduce maintenance needs and extend the service life of your equipment.

HB400 Lip Plate with HB400 Bolt-on Blade

The Rhinox tilt rotator grading bucket is built with a HB400 lip plate and HB400 bolt-on blade. We made the decision to harden both of these components to maximise the longevity of your cutting edge, inevitably reducing downtime and maintenance costs. HB400 is design to provide exceptional strength and wear resistance allowing you to use this bucket over a longer period of time. To further enhance versatility and longevity, the bucket comes with an optional HB400 bolt-on blade. Although made from HB400 to slow the wear, the bolt-on blade can be easily replaced when needed.

  • S60 Bolt-on Blade - Uses a HB400 blade with 3/4" UNC x 2-3/4" plow bolts

    • S70 Bolt-on Blade - Uses a HB400 blade with 7/8" UNC x 3-1/2" plow bolts

    5 Drainage Holes

For enhanced usability in wet and muddy conditions, the Rhinox tilt rotator grading bucket features 5 drainage holes on each side. These strategically placed holes ensure that water can easily escape, preventing unnecessary water build-up within the bucket. This design not only reduces the overall weight during operation, making it easier to manoeuvre, but it also enhances safety by improving bucket control and stability, even in challenging environments.

    Additional Wear Protection

Built to withstand the toughest environments, the Rhinox tilt rotator grading bucket features a leading edge that is over twice as thick as the shell thickness. This significantly reduces wear and tear to the front edge which experiences the most friction when digging through material. Further reinforcing the bucket are two centre rib supports and two sets of hanger gussets, which add structural strength and prevent bending or distortion during heavy use. These additional layers of protection ensure that the bucket maintains its shape and function, even in the most demanding applications, offering long-lasting performance and reducing the need for frequent repairs or replacements.

    Excavator Pallet Forks

The Rhinox S60 and S70 tilt rotator pallet forks are made with all the best features of our standard excavator pallet forks - from the robust carriage to the built-in stand that makes mounting effortless. Our tiltrotator pallet forks are designed to make your life on the jobsite easier, by allowing you to position pallets, floor beams and mortar tubs exactly where you need them. See the breakdown of attachment weights and Working Load Limits for our S60 and S70 pallet forks in the table below.

Rhinox S60 Tilt Rotator Pallet Forks - Front View

    Heavy-Duty Construction

It's a common issue among excavator pallet forks for the carriage to be fragile, leading to twisting and distortion. That's why we designed the Rhinox S60 and S70 tilt rotator pallet forks with a heavy-duty construction to withstand the rigors of harsh work environments. One of the key features is the reinforced crash plate, designed to absorb impacts and protect the main frame from damage when moving loads. Additionally, the centre bar support provides extra strength to the centre of the bar, which is an area renowned for bending or buckling under heavy pressure.

    Floating Forks

Rhinox tilt rotator pallet forks are equipped with floating forks. One of the key benefits of floating forks is their ability to manoeuvre under pallets, using gravity to hold the load parallel with the ground. Unlike fixed forks, which remain rigid and can easily stab into the ground when attempting to position them under a load. Many operators have shared their experiences with us, stating that once they switched to floating forks, they would never return to fixed forks. Additionally, floating forks can be manually adjusted from left to right to accommodate the width of your load, ensuring optimal stability and enhancing safety. For even easier width adjustments, adding a small amount of grease to the bar makes movement much easier. Learn more about Fixed VS Floating Forks.

    Concrete Pouring Buckets

Rhinox S60 and S70 tilt rotator concrete pouring buckets have a capacity of 0.75 cubic metres, which is equivalent to 750 litres. Our concrete buckets are specifically designed for precision pouring, featuring a unique rounded chute design for smooth and accurate pouring. Check out the table below for a breakdown of the attachment weights and capacities for our S60 and S70 concrete buckets.

Rhinox S60 Tilt Rotator Concrete Pouring Bucket

    Rounded Chute

One of the standout features of the Rhinox tilt rotator concrete pouring bucket range is the rounded chute on the front of the bucket. With over 30 years of industry experience and extensive research into optimising concrete pouring, we’ve determined that a rounded chute offers the most precise and efficient pouring solution. This design allows for near-centimetre accuracy, making it easy to pour in tight or complex areas, such as narrow foundations, around small prelaid pipes or directly into small containers. The result is more controlled pouring, which minimises overspill and reduces wasted material. Additionally, the rounded chute prevents material from getting stuck in corners, saving time when pouring other aggregates like pea shingle or woodchip and making it easier to clean out after use.

    Adjustable Gate

In addition to the rounded chute, every Rhinox tilt rotator concrete bucket comes equipped with an adjustable gate. This removable steel insert allows you to control the flow of your pour with precision. While experienced operators often prefer to manage the flow by tilting the bucket forward and backward, those with less experience or those looking for added precision have found the adjustable gate to be an invaluable tool. It ensures a consistent and accurate pour every time, making it a great feature for users seeking greater control and ease of use.

    Bucket Transportation Hooks

Similar to our standard digging buckets, Rhinox tilt rotator concrete pouring buckets feature bucket transportation hooks to streamline the process of moving multiple buckets around the site. Given the large size of S60 and S70 tilt rotator buckets, it’s crucial that they are safely transported across site and loaded onto wagons. This is where the bucket hooks excel. They greatly enhance safety by preventing uneven stacking of buckets, reducing the risk of tipping that could lead to accidents or equipment damage. Additionally, the hooks eliminate the need for manual handling, lowering the risk of operator strain or injury.

Tab-Lock Design & Additional Hanger Supports

Through extensive research, we discovered that using a tab-lock design for manufacturing the hangers of our ripper teeth provides the greatest strength and durability. This design involves cutting steel sections that fit together like a jigsaw puzzle. The matching tabs and holes in each piece create a tight, robust connection. Once slotted into place, the sections are welded to secure the entire structure. To further enhance the structural integrity of our S60 and S70 tiltrotator ripper teeth, we have incorporated additional steel supports into the hanger. These steel reinforcements strengthen the connection between the ripper shank and the hanger, helping to prevent bending or distortion during heavy-duty use.

    HB400 Solid Steel Shank

Rhinox tilt rotator ripper teeth provide exceptional toughness and longevity due to the HB400 solid steel shank. The HB400-grade steel is known for its high abrasion resistance, making it ideal for withstanding the extreme forces encountered during ripping and breaking tasks. This solid steel shank design ensures that your ripper tooth maintains its structural integrity, even in the harshest working conditions, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

HB400 Front & Side Wear Plates

The HB400 Front & Side Wear Plates further enhance the durability of the Rhinox ripper teeth. These wear plates are strategically placed to protect the most vulnerable areas of the attachment, offering added resistance against abrasion and impact. The use of HB400 steel ensures that the ripper teeth can withstand prolonged exposure to rough materials, extending their lifespan and maintaining peak performance over time and avoiding unnecessary strain on your excavator.

    CAT-Style Tip & Adaptor
