What is a 3CX Backhoe Loader?

The 3CX Backhoe Loader combines the bulk moving efficiency of a front-end loader with the telescopic arm of an excavator, to create a versatile construction and agricultural machine. Built with wheels instead of tracks, this 3-in-1 machine combines an excavator, front loader and tractor into one multi-purpose machine which is able to travel by road. The first of it's kind was created by JCB which is now widely known as the JCB 3CX Backhoe or JCB 3CX Excavator Loader.

The front-loader is designed to shovel and carry large amounts of material, such as soil and aggregate on construction sites, or potatoes, manure and fertiliser during agricultural use. Where as the rear-mounted excavator arm is designed to undertake the digging, removal and ground preparation jobs.

3CX Backhoe Bucket Design

The rear-mounted backhoe arm is designed to retract towards the machine for safe travel. Due to this function, the 3CX Backhoe Loader usually requires a unique style of bucket to be able to sit flush with the machine when retracted. This bucket design is most commonly referred to as the 3CX backhoe bucket. The profile of the 3CX backhoe bucket has a distinctively tall, shallow shell design, compared to that of a standard excavator digging bucket which usually possesses a shorter, more rounded profile.

Differences between Rhinox 3CX Backhoe & 3CX Standard Profile buckets

As mentioned above, backhoe profile digging buckets differ from the standard excavator digging bucket shell design. Through market research we have found that some operators prefer the standard excavator digging bucket style shell for their 5 to 10 ton 3CX backhoe loaders, so to accommodate this we also manufacture our standard excavator buckets and attachments with the 3CX hanger pick up. Although, not massively different in weight, the larger face of the 3CX backhoe bucket allows more material to be loaded and heaped during use, giving it an overall larger capacity.

Alongside the increase in weight and capacity, the Rhinox backhoe style digging bucket has a longer hanger, wrapping around the top of the bucket shell, compared to on top of the shell on our standard profile buckets. As the backhoe profile is shallower, it reduces the depth of the top of the bucket where the hangers are usually mounted. Extending the hangers further down the rear of the backhoe profile allows our welders to get a solid weld, ensuring the hangers are securely mounted in place.

Although different in profile, our 3CX backhoe and 3CX standard digging buckets have a number of similarities. Some of these include: the Lifetime Guarantee on All Welds, our Machine Fitment Guarantee and the Additional Wear Protection as standard, which come in the form of wear straps on the underside, the Rhinox badge that doubles up as a wear plate on the sides and a thicker leading edge to reinforce the areas exposed to the most action.
