Where are Rhinox products made?

There’s much more to manufacturing than what initially meets the eye, particularly in the construction industry. When it comes to the excavator buckets and attachments market, suppliers can be divided into three categories: UK Manufacturers, Overseas Manufacturers and Importers / Resellers - each with its own advantages and disadvantages. 3 Types of Excavator Bucket Supplier

1) UK Manufacturing

Manufacturers are typically defined as individuals or businesses that produce their goods in the country where they are based. For instance, a company located in the UK, that manufacture their own products, would be known as a UK Manufacturer. These manufacturers are responsible for transforming raw materials into either component parts or finished products. These products can then be sold directly to customers or distributed through additional supply chain members, such as importers, for further sale or distribution.

The primary advantage of UK manufacturers is their ability to maintain direct control over every aspect of production. This includes managing the quantity of units produced, the production schedule, and ensuring strict quality control standards. This hands-on approach allows them to respond more swiftly to market fluctuations or customer demands, ensuring they can adjust stock levels and product variants with shorter lead times. As a result, you benefit from faster delivery times and a more reliable supply of high-quality products tailored to your needs. While these benefits sound promising, there are also significant drawbacks to consider. Lead times can be unpredictable, meaning a next-day delivery service is often unrealistic. If you require your order urgently, this may not be feasible. Additionally, for products that require longer manufacturing times, the wait might be too long for your needs, which could mean you need to look for faster alternatives. In industries where timing is crucial, these delays could impact your project or schedule.

While there are three primary methods for supplying excavator buckets and attachments - UK Manufacturing, Overseas Manufacturing, and Importing / Reselling - there are also three distinct approaches to manufacturing the products themselves. These include Made-to-Order, Made-to-Stock, and Made-to-Assemble. Each method offers unique advantages and processes that can impact delivery times, inventory management, and customisation options. For a deeper understanding of these manufacturing approaches and how they affect product availability and order fulfilment, be sure to read our detailed article here.

2) Overseas Manufacturing

Overseas manufacturers are typically businesses that establish production facilities in a country different from their primary distribution location. For example, a company based in the UK might set up a manufacturing facility in India. In this arrangement, the UK-based company designs the products, specifies the material and material grade and develops the quality control processes. These specifications and systems are then implemented and executed at the manufacturing facility abroad.

Overseas manufacturing often involves much larger facilities, allowing for the production of greater quantities at one time. Companies that use overseas manufacturing typically engage in bulk production, shipping large volumes of products to their distribution locations. For example, for a UK-based company, this approach helps build up a substantial inventory, ensuring they can meet customer demand more effectively and maintain consistent stock levels. By doing so, they can reduce lead times and, in many cases, offer next-day delivery services. This means you can receive the products you need, when you need it.

While this approach has its advantages, it also comes with complexities. Overseas manufacturing requires meticulous planning and advanced forecasting compared to UK-based manufacturing for example. This is because the process of bulk producing initial stock and shipping it to the distribution location involves longer lead times. Effective management of these logistics is crucial to ensuring that the benefits of overseas manufacturing are realised. When executed properly, however, it can be highly advantageous to you, as the customer. It allows you to maintain very low downtimes, ensuring that products are available quickly and efficiently.

3) Importers / Resellers

Importers and resellers, as their name suggests, focus on importing and reselling products. Essentially, they acquire products that are in high demand from manufacturers and then sell them to their own customers. These businesses often work with overseas manufacturers because they can purchase products in larger quantities at lower prices. However, importers and resellers have no involvement in the manufacturing process, which means they have no control over product design or quality consistency.

Importers and resellers may not always be able to offer the most competitive pricing for their customers. This limitation arises because they purchase stock from manufacturers at set prices and typically have a narrow margin for adjusting their own prices while still making a profit. Additionally, importers and resellers have no control over stock availability, as they do not influence the manufacturer's production schedules or demand management. This lack of control can lead to stock shortages or delays in obtaining products, which can result in delays for you when placing orders.

When supplying buckets, resellers often operate on an order-by-order basis. For example, a machine dealer might need to source buckets to pair with the machines they sell, or a customer might request a particular brand of buckets to be included with their excavator purchase. Working on an order-by-order basis allows resellers to cater to the needs and preferences but also means that availability and pricing are less flexible. Do Rhinox Group manufacture in the UK?

One of our main goals is to provide a reliable service; with speed, quality and innovation at the heart of how we operate. To do this, Rhinox Group work on a hybrid system of UK Manufacturing and Overseas Manufacturing. We currently have a UK Manufacturing facility in East Yorkshire and Overseas Manufacturing Facilities in India.

All orders placed with Rhinox Group Ltd are shipped from our UK manufacturing and distribution facility, based near York in East Yorkshire.

There’s a common misconception that products manufactured outside of the UK are automatically standardised, poor-quality products, often produced by underpaid workers and available for any business to purchase. However, for Rhinox Group this is completely inaccurate. Our manufacturing facilities in India were specifically established by Rhinox Group Ltd to produce our own products, which are designed and developed by our expert, in-house engineering team. As a company, we carefully select all the materials used to make our products and employ a dedicated Quality Control Team to ensure that every product meets our high standards of consistency and quality. This approach ensures that our products, whether produced in the UK or overseas, maintain the excellence that you expect from Rhinox.

However, we also manufacturer our excavator and telehandler buckets and attachments at our UK premises. Although our overseas manufacturing allows us to hold over 20,000 products in stock at one time, some products can sometimes be out of stock. For customers who order an 'Out of Stock' product, we manufacture these items on-site at our UK facility, using steel sourced and cut by a local company. By manufacturing these out-of-stock products on-site, we are able to keep your delivery times short, ensuring they do not exceed 10 working days. We work in this hybrid manufacturing system so that you have the products that you need as soon as you need them! We understand that time is money in the construction industry so avoiding downtime is crucial!

How do we operate to our key values?

Our hybrid manufacturing approach, which combines local production with overseas facilities, plays a crucial role in helping us meet this goal efficiently.

QUALITY -

As well as having a quality control team at our UK based manufacturing location, we also have an independent quality control team at our manufacturing premises in India. This means that all buckets and attachments sold under the Rhinox branding are made within one of our manufacturing facilities and have been passed through our strict control procedures so that all our products are made to the same, high-quality standard every time. However, in the unlikely event that something does go wrong, your Rhinox products are backed by a lifetime guarantee on the welds.
