What is a Rhinox Uni Tusk / Utility Bucket?

If you're looking for an answer to What is a Rhinox Uni Tusk? then you might be aware about our hardened cast steel blade option that can fit to the front of your standard Rhinox Digging Bucket. To find out how this blade system can help save you money and improve your health & safety on site, continue reading or watch the video below.

The Rhinox Uni Tusk is a 550HB (Hardened Brinell) cast steel, Bolt on Blade system, that is designed to secure to the front of your Digging Bucket.

What does that really mean?  Basically, it is a lump of steel that has been casted into a specific shape and heated to extreme levels to increase it's resistance and durability when digging in harsh conditions. So when you bolt it to the front of your bucket, it adds extra thickness to avoid your bucket edge making direct contact with the ground - instead the Uni Tusk makes contact. Fitting one of these blades can increase your buckets lifetime by at least 4-6 times as it is thicker and more durable that your bucket itself. And as it is only bolted on, it can be unbolted, taken off and replaced when it is worn.

Why did we develop it?

Beyond the obvious of helping to dramatically increase your bucket's lifetime like mentioned above; it was also developed for use by utility contractors for use around cables in the ground. The blade is made with rounded corners to avoid the us of any sharp edges that could catch the utilities when digging trenches in the ground. It is designed to deflect the cables away from the bucket, rather than penetrate them.

It is estimated that around 70,000 underground cable strikes occur every year through digger buckets hitting the utilise while digging. Contractors are insisting that buckets are used without teeth around utilities now so this innovation seemed an important development for us to protect your buckets from unnecessary wear and to protect the operators and surrounding workers. In 2017, it was actually awarded the Plantworx Safety Innovation Award for our industry.

WARNING - Although it's been designed to help prevent utility strikes, we would still always recommend that you CAT Scan the area before digging so you are aware of any existing and LIVE cables or utilities in the ground.

More about the design:

The design of this blade is much larger and substantial than your standard Bolt on Blade . A standard Bolt on Blade is a flat piece of hardened steel that bolts underneath the lip plate of your Digging Bucket. The Uni Tusk was been casted to fit to the lip plate AND side plates of your bucket, and it is bolted through both the lip plate and the side plates to secure it in place. By casting the Uni Tusk blade around the side plates it adds an extra layer of protection to another high contact point of the bucket. If your side plates were to wear quicker than the rest of your bucket it could cause the bucket to become unstable and unpredictable.
